A tribute to the Sixties with the Surphonics

Release new CD

One of the best 60 bands in the Netherlands

It all started in the spring of 1996 when three friends, Michael Barkey, Rick Lourens and Pieter Molenaar, decided to combine their musical talents and play together as a group.

During their first rehearsals it appeared they all had a great appreciation for the musical style of the 50's and the 60's. The harmonic vocals of The Beach Boys, and the 'beat' of The Beatles are of a great influence to their music, which is very remarkable as the members of the band were not even born at that time.

In a short period of time, the band, now named 'More', establishes a well respected reputation with their live performances. Energetic and full with enthusiasm, a never-ending flow of classic songs hit the dance-floors, positive reactions with an increasing number of performances as a consequence, the band starts realizing the possibilities for the future.

The three friends then decided to take things to a higher and more professional level. The name of the band changed into "The Surphonics" and Martin Bakker was introduced as guitar-player and backing singer. His creativity brought an extra aspect and more balance to the sound of "The Surphonics". In March 2003 Michael himself decided to leave the band and he was replaced by Ruurd Heise.

The band's three CD's and one DVD are a collection of the bands favorite 50's and 60's classics. When listening to these tracks you will understand why "The Surphonics" have been nominated by several radio-stations as presently one of the best '60's bands. Imagine yourself in a crowded, noisy basement of a Hamburg pub and you will feel like your back in the '60's, that's how good "The Surphonics" sound.
